"Absence makes the heart grow fonder." I wonder, does that also works with prolonged lapses in blog posts? Never mind.
Needless to say I have a lot of catching you all up to do. Hang in there, you guys. Here we go...
Our homeschool co-op ended at the end of March. However, we continued to finish the bulk of our work, preparing all the while to flow as gracefully as possible into our summer schedule.
April was our big travel month, as we journeyed to Iowa and Matthew went then to Texas for his continuing medical education (in preparation for his recertification exam). We also were able to payoff the loan on our van! Woo Hoo!!! Next step: payoff our student loans.
In May, Anna performed in her second piano recital (I have a cute clip of one of her pieces). I'm always amazed at her ability to learn things so quickly on the piano. She even memorized both her pieces, and one of those was a duet!
Matthew and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary on the 19th. We are planning a little getaway in June- our first overnighter sans children since 2003. Yeah, that's what I was thinking too...
Matthew took his PA recertification exam on the 25th. A grueling 5+ hour exam that covered the major areas of medicine. He just learned today that he PASSED! Licensed for another 6 years!
The children and I have also had the privalege of taking our elderly friend, Ruby, to visit her husband at the Georgia War Veterans Home (aka The Blue Goose). I call Ruby and Arnold my "Northern Friends" since they themselves hale from South Dakota. I offered to give Ruby a ride to visit her husband because I felt so saddened by the thought that she wasn't able to readily go and see/talk to/be near the man she loved. It made me think a great deal about my own parents and how terribly sad that wrenching apart is. Anyway, I was humbled from the very moment we stepped into the Blue Goose and were greeted by a bent old man wearing a U.S. Marines cap. He was so delighted to see my little ones. He gently stoked Ezekiel's blonde head and wanted to talk to the girls. Over and over we were greeted as if we were the coolest drink of water on the hottest summer day. I have loved the time I have spent with my Northern Friends. And getting to talk with men who have defended our nation in some of the most violent and ugly periods in the history of the world has been an added blessing.
And that brings me to today. Rereading what I just typed, it doesn't seem like we're that busy. However, just staying at home can prove exhausting. From weeding the garden to filling and refilling and refilling the wading pool, we manage to find a great deal to keep us busy.
June will find us attending a CC homeschool practicum and tutor training, me singing in a wedding, Matthew and I heading off to Beaufort, SC for a brief hiatus, VBS at our church, and attending another wedding at the end of the month. We'll start on our summer school schedule and fill in the gaps with various and undoubtedly interesting activities.
Nope, never a dull moment.
