shake 'n stucco

One of the most challenging aspects of building a house (other than designing it) is choosing color schemes that not only compliment the style of the house and its setting, but also appeal to us and add a pleasing visual dimension. That's why it is so exciting to see the colors of the roof, the siding, and the shake come together. Hopefully you can see what I'm referring to in these photos. Any anxiety that we may have had about the colors we chose has dissipated and we are thrilled with the results!

As you can see in these photos, the shake in the roof peaks is being applied. The color of it is called "natural cedar." Our paint color is Ivorie (not white, but not overly dark. It's more of a light beige with a touch of yellow, making for a pleasant, even cheerful color). With the dark green roof, it makes for a comfortable and welcoming look.
The stucco is extremely close to the paint color and will be split from the siding by a strip of trim that will be white. The exterior of the fireplace is finished as is the base of the house. It won't be long before the painting is completed on the siding and trim. Then the smaller elements will be added (that is, porch fans, shutters, wall sconces, etc).
Gradually, the house is looking more and more like the finished product (on the outside, that is!). The work on the inside is progressing and the changes within will likely be the topic of the blogs to come.
