Science class

Last week we were outside doing some yard work, when Anna said, "Momma, look at that lizard!" I was standing on the front porch, so I leaned over the railing and was momentarily startled at what I saw. There was a lizard, about 5 inches long, shedding it's skin. It sort of looked like someone had unzipped it's skin down the back.

As we watched, the little lizard proceeded to grab at the dry, loose skin and yank it off. He'd then eat the dead skin and go after another piece.

Pretty soon he had most of it off and eaten. If he dropped a little piece, he'd go and pick it up. As Anna observed "He's good at cleaning up after himself."

He struggled most with the skin on his hind legs. The front legs were easy as he could stretch them up over his head and pull the skin off, kind of like taking off a t-shirt.

After about 20 minutes he had gotten most of it off. He was very sluggish at this point and just sat in the sun for a while. We were amazed at God's creation and how He enabled this little lizard to have a "new set of clothes" so to speak. I guess everybody does spring cleaning!
