It's hard to believe that a year has already passed since our little guy joined our family. On June 10th we celebrated Zeke's first birthday! He's a busy boy, crawling everywhere, standing up to things, and trying out the stairs (fret not, the gate has been pulled out again). Zeke is a good break from all the "girlness" of our family and, for the most part, takes things in stride.

For his big day he had his very own cupcake, complete with chocolate frosting and a candle. Of course, the candle was of great interest to him, so it didn't last long. But the cake? He didn't like the frosting too well. I think the stickiness of it was not to his liking, but the cake was gone in no time. Anna was his cake eating support and helped out with the frosting issues. Such a good big sister!

Presents were a hit with everyone. The girls enjoyed a shopping date with mommy to choose some gifts. They also are enjoying playing with Ezekiel's gifts. It doesn't seem to bother him that he rarely gets his own toys, but I'm sure that day is coming. He does like his dump truck and blocks, however, and will at least give his sisters a long stare if they've tried to swipe it from him. All in all, it was a fun day.

On the homefront, we've simply tried to keep cool. With days reaching the low 100s, we've revamped our daily duties to get outside in the morning and do indoor work in the afternoon. The wading pool has been an oasis for the girls, AND squirrels, AND birds, AND toads. It seems that everyone is looking for ways to beat the heat.

The garden is struggling along. We do have plenty of potatoes and our tomatoes beginning to ripen. The corn has small ears, the squash plants have blossoms, we've picked a handful (quite literally) of green beans, and continue to pray that the peppers will get a move on. Let's just say that we will gladly take what we get and chalk it up as a learning year.
