out of the frying pan...

The month of June was busy for us. With VBS at church and swimming lessons thrown in for good measure, we found ourselves not wanting for activity. Now that June is passed, we thought fleetingly of a slower pace. Boy were we wrong! Alas, we shall not fret over tomorrow or the month as a whole. It will care for itself.
However busy June may have been, we were certainly blessed by the bevy of activity. Here's the "lowdown" on last month:
Matthew and the girls were invited to fish for catfish at a private pond. They had fun in a paddle boat, catching their own fish, having a picnic, and enjoying Daddy-time. Matthew even tried his hand at cleaning a catfish. Perhaps his latent surgical skills are slowly showing up.

After a bustling, yet successful week of VBS, Anna and Rachel started swimming lessons. Their excited carried them over the eight days of lessons. I must admit, they made it worth the money.
We saw a new side of Rachel over the course of the week. She was seemingly fearless as she learned to go under the water to get sinking toys, swim through a submerged hoop, and even jump off the diving board and paddle her way to the side. I would have never imagined our little Rachel so bold. And to think, she used to despise having her hair rinsed at bath time!

Anna became confident in her ability to maneuver throught the water. She's a pretty good swimmer for it being her first year of lessons. Coordination will come, but she's not afraid to try new things. She too learned to swim under water and breath at the right times while paddling, as well as jump off the diving board and swim to the opposite end of the pool.

Both girls worked so hard that each was rewarded with a set of goggles all their own. On our last day of lessons I gave them their goggles. The entire 20 minute drive to the pool, they sat in the back with their goggles on, contentedly listening to the story that was playing. I wish it was easier to take pictures while driving. Just take my word for it - a very amusing sight!
