stains never looked so nice...

Well, we are about one month out from moving in! Can ya believe it?! Things are happening quite rapidly. The painting is nearly finished with the final coat going on this week. The staining is finished on the doors and beams in the great room. The final coats of urethane are forthcoming.
Today we had to deliver the kitchen sink to our granite fabricator. He was at the house making his template for the kitchen. Below is a picture of our slabs of granite. It is called "summer light" and is going to be beautiful in the house. The slab that will go on the island will be a single, uncut slab and will weigh about 800 pounds!!! (Sorry, but a photo just doesn't do it justice. I guess that means you'll all have to come visit us and see it for yourself.)
We have been blessed with some great sub-contractors. Mr. Rash is our cabinet maker and has done a fantastic job. The painters have taken on a very difficult job of painting (especially inside where the dormers create a rather precarious wall line). The electrical and plumbing guys are soon to be back at work putting in the finish hardware and lights for the house.
This next photo shows the handiwork of Mr. Rash with the kitchen cabinets. He also did our bathroom vanity cabinets. (This photo was taken last week. When I was out there today - Nov.3rd - all the base cabinets and most of the doors were on.)

We are so excited about the way the house colors are all coming together. I think picking colors has been the most difficult, because when you look at a color card with this little 2"x 1" swatch, it's hard to tell if you will like that color in large quantities. I think we collected five or six pints of different wall colors, trying to decide what we wanted to live with day in and day out. We chose a color called "sprout green" for the walls inside. The exterior doors, great room beams, fireplace mantle, and stair rails are a dark walnut stain, and the floor will be poly-urethaned white oak.

In this final photo, you can see the primer coat on the walls, the stained beams and hand rails. Now you have to wait (as we do) to see what takes shape this week.
