With the garden flourishing in shades of green, we knew it was only a matter of time before we could taste the fruits of our labor.
The peas have blossoms and young pods;
the broccoli has tiny florets starting to show;
the banana pepper plant has three peppers on it;
and the onion bulbs are beginning to bulge through the dirt surface.
Our potato beds have been looking wonderful too, and I could hardly wait to dig that first batch of new potatoes. So, on Wednesday, I decided to check them. Before I knew it, I had a small collander full of new red and white potatoes.
Of course, we enjoyed them for supper that very night. I cooked them with some green beans I had frozen from last summer and we had a veritable feast. Even my girls gobbled them up (that is, while giggling about how tiny some of the potatoes were).
What a blessing! It has us hungry for more.
