This morning, this Lord's Day, finds me home - alone. While my family is at church, I am here, on my bed, resting. It's a brisk morning. A slightly nippy breeze disturbs the curtains and chills my toes. The birds are chirping out their autumn songs.
It's a beautiful Lord's Day. Thanks to technology, I have just listened to a sermon by John Piper. As I perused the Bethlehem Baptist Church website, I was drawn to a sidebar item labeled "Fighter Verse Program." So, I looked at it. At this church, the congregation has taken up the memorization of scripture in order to arm themselves for fighting the good fight of faith.
We do a lot of memory work here at home, but this encouraged me all the more to be arming myself to hear my Commander's orders, know them in my heart and mind, and press on in battle.
Here's a link to one of the year-long programs. Their are several others, so check out the Hope In God website (www.hopeingod.org) for more.
